Nicolas “NiCO” HERRERA

An about me through Lauren’s POV…

Meet Nicolas Ashley Herrera a.k.a My Husband - a Brooklyn-bred cutie with a passion for culture, knowledge, music, and good food. Nick is arguably one of the most incredible people you’ll probably ever meet in your lifetime. He is funny, smart, clever, a protector, innovator, and instigator. Nick is the smartest person I know and will share things about history, geography, and science that the average person would never know. He’s always willing to learn and experience new things, even if it involves me taking him completely out of his comfort zone. Like that time I had him slide down a natural rock slide in Puerto Rico and dive into 18 ft of water (even though he doesn’t know how to swim). Or the time I had him drive up the mountains of Acadia National Park with zero visibility. Oh, and that time I had him venture into the hood of Puerto Rico because “I wanted to experience authentic culture.” Nick’s adventurous soul is what keeps our relationship fresh, lively, and exciting — he’ll never say no to a wild and crazy idea.

Nick’s creativity is unmatched. He uses skills in the kitchen to masterfully create food pairings that are both unique and often times not edible. From his infamous Wasa Pizza (my fave!) to his “everything but the kitchen sink” smoothies (no thank you!), Nick isn’t afraid to test the waters when it comes to his culinary expertise. Good food isn’t the only foundational principle he stands on, Nick believes the service of an establishment is equally, if not more important than the meal itself. He often uses Flatbush’s finest - Wing Wagon to highlight the owner Pedro and his exemplary customer service.

Nick’s energy is contagious. Anyone who meets him automatically loves him. He is arguably one of the funniest people you know. His quick thinking, witty connections, and historical knowledge makes for hilarious interactions that you’ll often find yourself revisiting for a good laugh. Nick’s not afraid to shake things up. Although he considers himself having 2 left feet, you will find him on any dance floor making an attempt to keep up with those around him. From singing his heart out at the many Leon Bridges concerts we attend, to dancing bomba at one of my work events - Nick is always willing to embarrass himself just a little for a good time.

Nick is a protector. You feel so safe around him that you’ll often let your guard down and get caught slipping. His embrace is the most incredible feeling ever and there’s always a sense of serenity and peace when he’s around. He’s strategic and can often shave off a good 10 minutes on the GPS when you’re running late — cutting corners (and cutting people off), Nick’s favorite phrase to use when driving with me in the car is “I’m carrying precious cargo.”

To know Nick is to love Nick, and I couldn’t be more blessed and excited to be marrying the most incredible human being on this planet!
